Grey skies and cool air greeted us today in Eyjafjörður, but the fjord was full of life. Our morning began with a Harbour seal south of the green buoy, followed by a Minke whale and several Harbour porpoises north of Hjalteyri. Sailing toward South Hrísey, we met 7 Humpback whales spread across the water — and, in a spectacular finale, four surfaced together right behind our boat.

In the afternoon, fog rolled in, softening the sea, yet the wildlife remained undeterred. A lively pod of over 12 Harbour porpoises leapt through the mist, and 2 Humpback whales appeared north of Hjalteyri.

By day’s end, our count stood at nine humpback whales, two minke whales, one harbour seal, and countless porpoises — proof that even under grey skies, Eyjafjörður never fails to amaze.
