Good day to all the whale lovers out there.
Here in Akureyri, temperatures are dropping quickly as we head into winter. However, today we started our tours under 5 degrees but in a completely mirror-like fjörð.
During our morning tours, we had the pleasure of seeing an amazing Minke whale around the green buoy lunge-feeding on the surface, making massive splashes, and those characteristic white-striped pectoral fins coming out of the water. But since it was actively feeding, we didn’t want to be on the whale’s way, so we ventured north. In Rauðavík, we found 2 Humpback whales, Disy and White Fang. A sight to be seen, sunny skies and flat water, 2 amazing whales around.
During the afternoon tours, the wind picked up slightly, but we still had the sun overhead. This time, we went all the way to E Grenevík, where we found a massive Humpback whale calmly swimming around and coming rather close to us. Suddenly, we started seeing more blows further South, so we went to investigate. We ended up with 5 Humpback whales, bringing the total of the day to 6 Humpback whales seen.
