We sailed out with sunny conditions but with a very chilly wind so people were very happy with the overalls. We sailed for about 20 minutes and then we already encountered our first humpback whale. After sailing a little further out we were literally surrounded by humpback whales, we saw at least 8 individuals.
They were coming together in pairs and threesomes, swimming and diving together and then going separate ways again. Many times they came up close to our boat. Because the humpback whales were so close to Akureyri we managed to spend a lot of time with them and due to the rain and sun passengers managed to get pictures with both whales and rainbows.
We hope the whales will decide to stick around so close to Akureyri for a bit longer!
